Vivienne Westwood designs for The International New Year’s Day Concert
As part of the New Year’s Day Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Vivienne Westwood has been chosen to design and curate the costumes for the intermission ballet. The inspiration for the costumes came from the setting for the ballet itself, Palais Liechtenstein. For the first Waltz the male dancers appear in double breasted jackets with tails inspired by the Vivienne Westwood MAN Label spring / summer 2011 collection, Endangered Species. The first dancer appears in a Vivienne Westwood re-designed asymmetrical Bird Of Paradise gown in deep burgundy with bow and tulle underlay. For the second part of the ballet the costumes were inspired by traditional Scottish tartan, which is a heritage fabric for Vivienne Westwood.
