The Hackney Fashion Hub to launch stitching academy

The Hackney Fashion Hub announces plans for a new stitching academy and apprenticeship scheme in East London. The Hackney Fashion Hub is a regeneration project located in Hackney Central that will create a new focal point for British fashion in the heart of London’s East End. The Fashion Hub project has already delivered temporary factory outlet shops occupied by Aquascutum, Pringle and Halcyon Days and The Hackney Shop where local designers have successfully been showcasing and selling their designs since the spring. Proposals currently being considered by Hackney Council include plans for new factory outlet shops creating hundreds of jobs for people across the borough located in two iconic buildings, along with a manufacturing hub which will provide the home for a stitching academy. A Hackney Fashion Hub Trust, which will promote fashion in Hackney is also set to be established. The Trust aims to be the main point of contact for local businesses to engage with Hackney Council’s Ways into Work jobs provider and to promote various events and initiatives at The Fashion Hub. The stitching academy will provide local designers with a subsidised sampling, and manufacturing unit, and customers with a tailored alteration service will be set up to support the fashion industry in Hackney. The academy is set to create many manufacturing jobs for Hackney residents and will allow fledgling design based Hackney businesses to produce clothes at competitive prices, which will subsequently help to develop their businesses.
