Lee Jeans launch SS19 campaign with Jamel Shabazz
Celebrating 130 years of denim, heritage brand Lee Jeans has announced that its SS19 campaign has been shot by legendary streetstyle photographer, Jamel Shabazz. With the brand’s hip-hop credentials at the forefront of its collection this season, Lee Jeans has sifted through its archive, finding pieces that are laced with that old school attitude, re-imagined for today. Bringing the collection to life and grounding it in its own history, the brand has enlisted photographer Jamel Shabazz. Responsible for capturing the most enduring imagery from the birth of the hip-hop scene, this generation-defining artist has taken Lee’s SS19 offering back to New York City. Using the same streets and neighbourhoods that are found in Shabazz’s original book, Back in the Days. Alongside the models, the campaign makes use of Shabazz’s network of friends and creatives, street-casting New Yorkers whose aesthetic is imbued authentic hip-hop styling. Amongst those street-cast stars are the likes of Bronx streetstyle icon Kool-Out-K and DJ Lee Rock, whose genuine love of the 80s has made them local heroes and a source of international sartorial inspiration. To mark the occasion – and as a result of the collaboration between Lee Jeans and Shabazz – Back to Today is set to be released as a limited-edition book of the same title. A celebration and reimagining of 1980’s hip-hop style, this tribute to Back in the Days book will contain the best photographs from Lee’s SS19 campaign
