    Marie Claire UK announces Editor-in-Chief

Marie Claire UK – the agenda-setting media destination for women who want to think smart and look amazing – today announces the appointment of Andrea Thompson to the role of editor-in-chief. Currently deputy editor of Marie Claire, Andrea takes the helm on 1 October and will report into chief revenue officer Sam Finlay. Andrea is an award-winning journalist with more than 17 years’ experience, specialising in investigative reporting into ethical issues and women’s rights and has edited at a senior level for over 10 years.  At Marie Claire, Andrea has led a range of the brand’s women’s empowerment campaigns and franchises such as the Marie Claire mentoring scheme, annual Future Shapers Awards and the Not My Job campaign, which pushed for equal pay for women. She has also upheld the brand’s global focus on women’s rights, spearheading campaigns in partnership with leading brands to champion girls’ education and reproductive rights, sustainability and diversity. The report she oversaw on ‘Rape as a Weapon of War in the Congo’, won the brand an Amnesty Media Award. Previously during her four years as a senior features writer for Daily Mail, Andrea acted as an undercover investigative reporter bringing to light stories that landed the front page and has presented for Channel 4 on ethical fashion and better transparency within the cosmetic surgery industry.  Andrea has also freelanced for leading publications such as The Sunday Times and Guardian and worked on the features teams at Grazia, Glamour and woman&home. Andrea will be joined by a leadership team including commercial director Angela Rawstorne, digital editor Holly Rains and beauty and style director Lisa Oxenham. Andrea’s appointment follows the announcement that current editor-in-chief Trish Halpin will be stepping down on 30 September.
